Back in August, Star Wars Outlaws didn’t exactly have the smoothest of takeoffs. The launch left some fans frustrated due to a mediocre critical response and a variety of technical hiccups, ranging from minor visual quirks to bugs that could seriously disrupt gameplay. One particularly notorious glitch forced some PS5 players to delete their save files entirely just to fix some severe technical problems, effectively wiping their progress clean and sending them back to square one.
Fast forward a few months, and Star Wars Outlaws is in a much better place. Ubisoft has been all ears, taking feedback from fans to heart and rolling out updates that have steadily polished the game. However, none of the prior patches hold a candle to the latest Title Update, which brings a host of fixes and new features that directly address some of the biggest player gripes.
With the 1.4.0 Title Update, one of the most significant overhauls involves the game’s stealth mechanics. Previously, players faced an automatic mission failure if they were spotted during stealth sequences. That hardline approach has now been softened; no longer will a slip-up instantly lead to mission failure. What’s more, players can wander through certain syndicate-controlled areas without automatically being pushed into stealth mode.
This update also ushers in a revamped detection system. Now, players receive notifications when an enemy starts to notice them, and there’s even a visual alert to let players know if their actions could attract unwanted attention. This update also solves other stealth-related issues, making gameplay more intuitive and forgiving, such as multiple guards responding to a whistle instead of just one.
Combat in Star Wars Outlaws has also seen significant improvements in this update. Enemies now feature weak points, and players who take the time to target these will be rewarded with specific death animations linked to the part of the body they hit. The handling of Kay’s blaster has been fine-tuned as well, with adjustments to recoil and spread to better reward precision aiming. Notably, headshots now pack a more significant punch.
The update’s enhancements extend to enemy AI, which is now smarter and more strategic. Enemies make better use of cover and react more realistically to explosions, adding an extra layer of challenge and immersion.
In addition to these gameplay revisions, the update addresses visual concerns. Many players had flagged issues with the muddy visuals, particularly during dialogue scenes. Now, with the 1.4.0 Update, you’ll notice improved facial animations during conversations and crisper visuals in cinematic sequences.
Topping off all these improvements, Star Wars Outlaws has rolled out its first story DLC. Named ‘Wild Card,’ this expansion sees our protagonist, Kay Vess, teaming up with the legendary Lando Calrissian to win a high-stakes Sabacc tournament, adding an intriguing new chapter to the game.
Players new and returning now have a far more polished and engaging experience on their hands. From the galaxy’s bustling cantinas to the far reaches of uncharted space, Star Wars Outlaws finally seems ready to deliver the adventure fans have been eagerly awaiting.
