It seems that Warner Bros has decided to pull the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to a report from Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to launch alongside a Definitive Edition of the popular Harry Potter action RPG, promising new storylines and additional content.
The reason for this cancellation, sources say, is that the expansion didn’t offer enough content to justify the pricing they had in mind. Developers working on this expansion included Avalanche Software, the original creators of Hogwarts Legacy, and Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also reportedly working on a sequel to this hit game.
Rocksteady, on the other hand, has faced some challenges lately. The studio recently laid off some of its employees after announcing it would halt support for the upcoming 2024 release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Warner Bros has been having a tough time with its gaming division, acknowledging last year that it has been "substantially underperforming." In the same year, they took a significant hit by writing off a staggering $200 million for the development of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The company has also closed three of its studios recently, including Monolith, and saw its long-time leader, David Haddad, stepping down.
