Snap, the powerhouse behind Snapchat, is now offering its latest Spectacles AR Glasses at a more student-friendly price point. Through a new educational discount, these high-tech glasses are now available at half of their original $1,200 launch cost, making them more accessible to both students and educators.
The company’s fifth-generation Spectacles, known as Spectacles ’24, hit the market in September 2024. Originally, these glasses targeted developers with a subscription-style pricing of $100 per month over a one-year period.
The latest iteration of Spectacles has notably upped its game compared to its 2021 predecessor. Users now enjoy a broader field of view, enhanced resolution, added hand-tracking capabilities, and a completely refreshed software stack. Despite these advancements, the price hurdle has been a challenge for students and teachers eager to dive into the world of AR app creation and learning.
In a bid to make these innovative glasses more accessible, Snap is now offering a student discount that slashes the price in half. For $49.50 per month, with a minimum 12-month commitment, students can own the Spectacles. Alternatively, they can pay a one-time fee of $594 for the first year, followed by $49.50 each subsequent month to continue their journey with the headset.
This enticing offer is available to anyone holding a .edu email address or an email from an accredited educational institution. It’s not just limited to the U.S.; students and teachers across France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands can all benefit from this discount.
