There’s no shortage of massive Skyrim quest mods out there, and one in particular, known as “Death Consumes All,” has taken things to a whole new level. Originally inspired by the amazing Hearts of Stone DLC from The Witcher 3, this mod, which originally focused on a realistic plague epidemic, has just received a significant expansion.
If you dabbled with Death Consumes All when it first launched in 2020, you’re not alone. Since its release, it’s racked up over 100,000 downloads on Nexus Mods. Gamers were captivated by the extensive 10-hour branching questline, complete with full voice acting, all crafted by the talented Anbeegod, and everyone seemed eager to dive in.
Now, Anbeegod has been hard at work revamping the entire mod, releasing an updated version aptly named “Death Consumes All – DLC Quest Mod (Revamped).” This overhaul expands the main questline to an impressive 30 hours. The core story remains true to its roots—a deadly plague sweeping through Skyrim, mimicking the spread of real-life epidemics, and posing a threat of turning everyone into undead. Together with a new follower, Livia Salvian, players must face fierce foes, uncover the sinister truth, and ultimately decide the fate of the realm.
But it’s not just a simple expansion; plenty has changed in this new version. Anbeegod claims to have “completely revamped most of the original quests to enhance their flow, storytelling, and writing.” There’s a slew of new quests brimming with deep narratives and varied choices, plus a brand-new introductory quest, bringing the quest tally from over 13 to more than 17. The mod’s dialogue benefits from an additional 1000 lines, refining the voice acting across the board.
One particularly noteworthy feature is the addition of an option to “toggle off the plague,” sparing Skyrim’s inhabitants a grim fate. Such a feature would’ve been quite the godsend back in medieval times. On top of that, other tweaks aim to make battles more refined and balanced, while reducing bugs and conflicts with other mods.
It’s an enticing prospect if you’re in for a 30-hour dive into battling the undead, as your Dragonborn contends with yet another apocalyptic challenge. As a nice touch, Anbeegod has promised that “50% of this mod’s donation points will be shared with Doctors Without Borders to aid in the fight against real-world epidemics.” That’s both charitable and impressive.
