At this point, details on Space Marine 3 are still under wraps, but what we do know is quite promising. Saber Interactive has confirmed that the game will include both a campaign and a multiplayer mode. The conclusion of Space Marine 2 left plenty of room for a sequel. We saw the protagonist, Titus, victorious over the forces of Chaos and the Tyranids, heading off on a new mission with Marneus Calgar, the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines. Plus, there was that intense side mission against Chaos cultists featured in Amazon’s Secret Level anthology that Titus took part in, adding more layers to the storyline.
Reflecting on the series, both Space Marine games started with alien threats. The first was the Orks, and the second introduced the Tyranids, but both eventually revealed the darker menace of a Chaos Space Marine antagonist—Nemeroth and the Thousand Sons, to be precise—leading to an epic showdown. Predicting the next source of conflict in Space Marine 3 is tricky at this stage. However, the intriguing Necron technology glimpsed at the end of the last game hints that we might see the Necrons entering the fray. It’s a tantalizing setup that holds a lot of potential for the series’ future.
