Hitman World of Assassination is facing a delay for its launch on PlayStation VR2, now pushed to next year.
Initially, IO Interactive planned to roll out the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy for PlayStation VR2 this December, following the announcement in September’s State of Play presentation. However, the release has been rescheduled for March 27, 2025. The development team stated that this postponement allows them extra time to enhance the game and include some additional features, such as active manual reloading.
In a detailed explanation on the PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive expressed the reasoning behind this shift in release date. Originally, the game was expected in December 2024, but has now been put off until March 27, 2025. This was a tough decision for the studio, considering the strong demand and positive anticipation surrounding Hitman’s arrival on PS VR2 following its announcement.
The team emphasized that their goal remains to provide an exceptional gaming experience that aligns with the high expectations of their players. This extension provides them the opportunity to fine-tune the game to ensure it is polished, immersive, and smoothly integrated. Additionally, it allows room to introduce extra elements they’ve been eager to incorporate into this version, with active reloading being one of them.
This isn’t the first time IO Interactive has ventured into bringing the Hitman series into the VR space. They’ve had previous VR releases on Quest and PC VR/PSVR. With this new launch, players can expect to explore all major levels from the revamped trilogy, benefiting from features like dual-wielding and room-scale gameplay alongside fresh controls and mechanics.
On the PlayStation VR2, the game is set to debut “positional interactions,” a new feature that requires players to physically replicate actions instead of simply pressing a button. Tasks like typing on a keyboard or pouring poison into a glass will require mimicking the motions, enhancing the immersive experience. The game’s objects will also remain physical, allowing players to closely examine items like swiping a keycard or unlocking a door.
Mark your calendars for March 27, 2025, when Hitman World of Assassination launches on PlayStation VR2. It will be available as a $10 paid upgrade for those who already own the flat-screen game on PS5.
