Today, an update emerged from FuturLab that might disappoint VR enthusiasts. The studio’s CEO, Kirsty Rigden, announced the end of support for PowerWash Simulator VR on the Quest platform, citing financial viability and the importance of job security.
In her statement, Rigden emphasized FuturLab’s passion for virtual reality, but she acknowledged a harsh reality: “Our VR team was focused on a platform that cost more to support than it generated in revenue.” Although this signals a pause rather than a permanent goodbye to VR, the team working on PowerWash Simulator VR has now been shifted to other projects, a move primarily aimed at ensuring job stability. Given these circumstances, a return to VR support seems unlikely for the foreseeable future.
If you’re seeking more insight, here’s Rigden’s complete message: “I regret to inform you that we’re halting support for PowerWash Simulator VR. Despite our love for VR, the economic situation doesn’t allow us to persist at this time.”
She continued, “Faced with a tough decision, we had a wonderful VR team engaged in a high-cost, low-return effort, and we had other vacancies to address within the company. I opted to reassign our VR experts to these other roles. While the dream of supporting PowerWash Simulator on all platforms remains strong, my priority will always be the stability of my team. I understand the disappointment this may cause, but I believe anyone in my position would walk the same path.”
Despite the sadness surrounding the VR support halt, the traditional version of PowerWash Simulator is thriving. The game continues to expand with additions like the Shrek DLC, with plans for a Wallace & Gromit Pack in motion. Since June’s release of the Alice’s Adventures Special Pack, however, Quest users haven’t seen new VR updates. Previously, PowerWash Simulator VR had spoiled users with additions like the Muckingham Files 1 & 2 and crossovers with cultural icons like SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
Rest assured, current VR content and DLC remain on the Meta Quest platform, as FuturLab has indicated it does not intend to remove them anytime soon.
