COLD VR, the much-anticipated follow-up to the classic SUPERHOT VR from 2016, is gearing up for its launch on Quest and PC VR headsets next month. PlayStation VR2 users will have to wait a bit longer for their version, which is scheduled for a subsequent release.
SUPERHOT VR had its heyday some time ago but still holds a special place in gamers’ hearts, largely due to its innovative time-bending gameplay. Surprisingly, not many studios have jumped on the bandwagon to emulate its signature time-freezing mechanic. COLD VR, however, is taking a stab at it with a clever twist: instead of slowing down, speeding up becomes your new best friend—or worst enemy. When you take it slow in COLD VR, time and your enemies speed up, turning hesitance into a recipe for disaster.
In a fresh trailer, developer ALLWARE revealed its partnership with publisher Perp Games to bring COLD VR to Quest and PC VR headsets on January 21st, 2025. As for PSVR 2 fans, they’ll have to be patient for its arrival, as its release date hasn’t been pinned down yet.
The game isn’t just about facing smarter foes, though. Get ready for “increasingly powerful enemy AI and environmental challenges” like lethal lasers, moving platforms, and some surprising twists for those brave enough to explore, ALLWARE promises.
Carlos Alfonso from ALLWARE expressed his excitement about the development journey and the collaboration with Perp Games. “Crafting COLD VR has been an amazing experience,” Alfonso shared. “Perp Games has been instrumental in making it possible to introduce players to a unique gameplay where time manipulation is key. Thanks to their support, we’ll now reach an audience I never imagined possible. I’m over the moon for the adventure that lies ahead!”
Fans eager to dive into this new VR experience can wishlist COLD VR now. It’s priced at $19.99, £14.99, or €19.99, depending on your region. Check it out on the Horizon Store for Quest 2/3/Pro, Steam for PC VR, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
