MSI has promptly addressed the swirling rumors about a potential recall of NVIDIA’s RTX 5090, clarifying that these claims are baseless and originate from an unauthorized retailer.
Reports surfaced yesterday from a Dutch retailer suggesting that NVIDIA is pulling back its GeForce RTX 5090 cards due to a “fire hazard,” with the retailer specifically mentioning an MSI SUPRIM model. The news gained traction quickly, leading MSI to release an official statement to set the record straight.
Here’s what they had to say:
On March 6, 2025, MSI was surprised to find an article on the Kitguru website mentioning that a retailer named UW GAME SPECIALIST claimed they couldn’t fulfill an order for 5 GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC cards due to an alleged recall over fire hazard concerns. MSI categorically denies these accusations, stating clearly that no such recall is underway and that their products are safe and reliable. They further clarified that UW GAME SPECIALIST is not affiliated with MSI and that they do not have any formal partnership with them.
Moreover, MSI is considering legal options against those who spread these damaging rumors, which they say tarnish their reputation. They advised customers to purchase MSI products only from authorized sellers to avoid any confusion. Some of these trusted retailers include Megekko, Azerty, Alternate NL and BE, SHS, CPS, PDC, Bol, Coolblue, and Copaco.
This statement from MSI should help put to rest any fears about the RTX 5090 facing new technical issues. Although NVIDIA has faced challenges with the RTX 50 series, involving supply chain hiccups and problems like missing ROPs or black screen occurrences, this fire hazard rumor is not one of them.
For regular users, there’s no imminent risk of their RTX 5090s overheating. MSI’s reassurance confirms there are no underlying issues related to fire hazards. That said, it’s still wise for users to ensure proper installation of their RTX Blackwell GPUs.
