Absolutely, this isn’t some fantastical dream or a peculiar cross-media stunt, though it certainly serves as clever marketing for the acclaimed American shoe brand. This November, Epic Games introduced a new cosmetic feature called “Kicks” in Fortnite. It allows players to jazz up their characters with a variety of shoe options. Thanks to this update, characters like Zuko can now rock a pair of Nike sneakers while diving into battle royale action, all perfectly above board.
The introduction of Kicks came with a limited line-up of shoes, which will be rolled out in two stages. The first set offers four distinct styles at different price points. Basic white leather Nike trainers come in at 800 V-bucks, while the more extravagant galaxy-patterned high tops are priced at 1,000 V-bucks. Personally, I find the Chomp Stompers—those quirky shark-themed slippers—to be the most adorable choice, and they’re a bargain at 600 V-bucks.
Admittedly, Kicks are on the pricey side for in-game items. You’ll need to shell out $8.99 to snag 1,000 V-bucks, and players have already voiced concerns about the cost being on the steep end. Furthermore, these snazzy shoes can only be paired with a select group of Fortnite characters. For example, you can spruce up Satoru Gojo and John Wick’s footwear, but unfortunately, Avatar Aang will have to miss out on the fun. Even so, with the available character and shoe combinations, players can still craft some delightfully quirky looks.
