After taking a year off due to health concerns, the long-awaited return of professional wrestler Kenny Omega happened at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th. Fans were thrilled to see him back, and he didn’t disappoint, introducing a fresh entrance theme that featured contributions from two video game industry icons.
Before making his comeback, Omega took to X (previously known as Twitter) to share his excitement. “Before my return tomorrow, I want to announce that I’m debuting a new entrance at the Tokyo Dome,” he revealed. “It’s a brand new track crafted by the talented Masayoshi Soken, well-known for his work on Final Fantasy 14 and 16, with vocals from Jason Miller and a special voice appearance by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu. I hope you enjoy.”
New Japan Pro Wrestling, one of the event’s five co-producers, delighted fans by sharing snippets of Omega’s entrance from the live, pay-per-view broadcast on X.
Amidst the roaring cheers of the crowd, you can catch the unmistakable style of Soken. The orchestral tunes rise and fall, blending with powerful vocals to create a piece of music that feels like it belongs in the midst of a Final Fantasy 14 raid or during a key narrative moment in Final Fantasy 16. While I’m not entirely familiar with Nobuo Uematsu’s voice, I like to think it was his voice electrifying the atmosphere as Omega made his way to the ring.
And in case you’re curious, Omega emerged victorious in his match. It’s tough to be defeated when you’re fuelled by the epic sounds of Final Fantasy music!
