Oh no, what a day! The infamous Meridia black hole in Helldivers 2 has finally caught up with its prey, Angel’s Venture, and obliterated it in a dramatic cosmic event. Sadly, this means the planet, which had been in the black hole’s crosshairs for some time, is no more. As you’d expect, Arrowhead has proclaimed a time of mourning for the unfortunate souls of Angel’s Venture.
It was pretty clear that the fate of Angel’s Venture was sealed, especially after evacuation orders were issued. And inevitably, the looming purple menace that had begun its journey towards Super Earth finally made its move and erased the planet spectacularly from existence.
In a tweet, Arrowhead somberly announced, “Angel’s Venture has been torn apart by the Meridian Singularity,” complete with a news update for those who missed witnessing the event. They further commented, “The Illuminate, previously masked behind a facade of intelligence and refinement, have shown their true colors – chaos.” This was followed by an announcement from the President of Super Earth who declared a galaxy-wide mourning period lasting 24 hours.
There’s a bitter mix of sorrow and awe in the air, especially for those in the helldiver ranks who bore witness to such a visually stunning yet devastating event. In a twist of irony, a Reddit user going by the name ‘DickBallsley’ had confidently claimed they could save Angel’s Venture, posting, “Y’all acting as if I would let that happen.” But following the destruction, they owned up to their overconfidence, stating, “I’m sorry everyone, I might have overdone it,” humorously acknowledging that they should have adhered to instructions more closely, adding, “This one’s on me.”
Naturally, the community responded with the classic Obi-Wan Kenobi “You were the chosen one” GIF, representing the sentiments of many.
As the community grieves, the battle rages on. The Meridian Singularity is now headed straight for Super Earth, with several other planets in its potential path. It seems the next mission will revolve around trying to slow down this celestial monster by fending off yet more assaults from the Illuminate. Here’s hoping the next attempt fares better than this one.
