Helldivers 2 has just introduced an intriguing new Major Order. Whether you’re still smarting from missing the mark on the previous one or excitedly booting up the game on Steam after a long hiatus, this latest mission is worth your attention—not just for the task at hand, but for what it could set in motion.
Last time, the Major Order reintroduced the revamped Democracy Space Station to combat the Illuminate, while die-hard bugdivers might have already been entrenched in the bug battle. Now, it’s time to return to the bug-infested war zones.
On the surface, this new Major Order might not seem groundbreaking. You’re tasked with extracting 22 million common samples from Erata Prime, collecting 15 million rare samples from Gacrux, and ensuring that Super Earth maintains control over Fenrir III within the next four days.
However, the purpose behind these efforts is what’s captivating. Your mission will aid in developing technology to combat “The Gloom”—that peculiar spore cloud saturating areas under Terminid control. It turns out that these spores might do more than just require you to install fog lights on your ship.
As shared on Twitter, “MAJOR ORDER: The Illuminate campaign of terror carries on unchecked. Even the newly enhanced DSS, precisely deployed by the Helldivers, couldn’t quite stop the xeno-autocracy.” Yet, not all hope is lost. Recent scientific discoveries suggest that things could take a turn for the better.
According to Arrowhead’s full briefing, experimentation with Gloom spores on Terminids shows a potential for dramatically increasing Element 710 yield—up to ten times the usual rate, in fact. This could mark a significant breakthrough, suggesting that the Gloom may be an untapped energy source. By harnessing it, faster-than-light travel could extend beyond military capabilities to benefit trade, research, and even more military and colony operations.
So, this could either introduce new resources for Super Earth beyond just the DSS or follow the players’ speculations and result in unintended consequences, like releasing even bigger, badder bugs due to Gloom mutations.
We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out, but considering it’s Helldivers 2, expect a bit of both chaos and discovery in the journey ahead.
