Incuvo’s latest project, Green Hell VR (2022), the virtual reality take on the well-loved open-world survival game, is at last delivering its much-anticipated co-op mode. This exciting addition is set to launch this month for those using Quest and PSVR 2.
Initially revealed back in April 2023, the co-op mode is arriving on December 16th, completely free for current owners on PSVR 2, as well as Quest 2, 3, and 3S. This new feature is designed to enhance the intense solo experience by enabling teams of up to four players to collaborate. Players can choose between melee and ranged weapons to both hunt for food and defend one another from the jungle’s lethal predators. Furthermore, teamwork extends to constructing shelters against harsh weather conditions. In a clever twist, teammates can visibly spot when others require medical attention, even offering a helping hand to pluck off those pesky leeches.
Sadly, this multiplayer update won’t support cross-play across the different platforms, including interactions between PC and VR or between Quest and PSVR 2 players. The development team addressed this limitation, explaining via a post on X that their main focus was delivering the multiplayer update. They acknowledged that tackling cross-play compatibility would delay progress but hinted they might revisit the idea in the future.
Andrzej Wychowaniec, CEO of Incuvo, expressed the team’s excitement, stating, “Bringing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is extremely important to our VR community, and we know they have been waiting for this feature since we first launched the game on those platforms. Still, we had to ensure it lived up to their expectations for an immersive, co-op survival experience.”
As for SteamVR users, the introduction of the co-op mode remains uncertain. The likelihood appears dim given that the PC VR version hasn’t seen much attention since its Steam debut. Its last significant update was way back in late 2022, as the studio seemed more focused on its ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion for Quest and PSVR 2.
