Reports have surfaced that the French voice cast for Apex Legends is standing firm against signing a contract clause related to AI training. Pascale Chemin, who lends her voice to Wraith in the French version of the popular battle royale game, voiced her concerns on Twitter. She revealed that a contract, likely from Electronic Arts, included a stipulation allowing their voices to be used in training AI models. Although she didn’t explicitly name the game or publisher, all signs point to Apex Legends and EA as the parties involved.
What’s more, Chemin isn’t alone in this stance. A total of 31 other voice actors involved have also declined to sign the agreement, expressing their opposition through a collective letter to the publisher.
Chemin emphasized the importance of unity in their efforts, stating, “If we don’t come together now to ensure a protective clause for our voices is included in our contracts—not just for us, but for all video game voice-over studios—we risk never having that protection and facing a grim future.”
She added, “Turning down work today seems illogical. Many of us are dealing with scarce job opportunities, and financial struggles are all too real. Yes, the paycheck would be nice. But this isn’t just about working—we’re being asked to give up our skills to train an AI that might replace us. We’re being asked to agree to something we’re fundamentally against. Essentially, we’re being asked to sabotage ourselves, to endorse AI advancements that will do us out of a job.”
