Nintendo Switch enthusiasts eagerly anticipating Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will need to exercise a tad more patience. The release for the Switch has been pushed back to December 19, only slightly later than the original plan of December 10. Interestingly, 2024 has not been the busiest year for the Power Rangers universe. During the Summer Games Fest in June, the collaboration between Hasbro and developer Digital Eclipse introduced Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, a retro-style beat-em-up that brings back the classic Teenagers with Attitude.
The game promises a nostalgic journey with its side-scrolling action and pixelated visuals, reminiscent of the mid-90s Power Rangers games. But that’s not all—it throws in some modern-day surprises like 3D Megazord fights and rail shooter sections. Tying into last year’s reunion special, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once and Always, the game features the villainous Robo Rita as she goes back in time to ally with her younger self and attempt to obliterate the Rangers for good. With not much on the horizon for the Power Rangers franchise, fans are excited to dive into Rita’s Rewind on December 10 when it launches across most platforms.
However, it’s not all smooth sailing. Developer Digital Eclipse recently informed fans that the Nintendo Switch launch will face a slight delay, now scheduled for December 19, 2024, due to “unforeseen” issues.
As far as the release dates go, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is slated for December 10, 2024, on PlayStation, Steam, and Xbox, with the Switch version following on the 19th. A minor hiccup to note is the absence of online play for Xbox and Nintendo Switch at launch due to some unspecified “technical issues.” Nonetheless, this doesn’t take away from the two-player co-op available on PlayStation and Steam, or the offline multiplayer option across all platforms. The game allows local co-op for up to five players, letting friends partner up as the core Power Rangers team or even the unlockable Green Ranger.
Long-time Power Rangers fans, who have been waiting for months, are eager for what Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers promises: a nostalgic blend of past TV characters and classic beat-em-up gameplay. Should Rita’s Rewind deliver as expected, it might even pave the way for future games based on other Power Rangers seasons. Though Switch users will need to hang tight for a bit longer, they’re sure to find it worth the wait once they jump into the action.
In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, players will face Robo Rita, the mechanical resurrection of the Rangers’ old foe. She aims to rewrite history by teaming up with her younger self, threatening to stop the very birth of the Power Rangers. It’s a wild mix of rewinding, remixing, and rewriting history. Can the Power Rangers outwit this villainous duo and fix the tangled timeline? Only time will tell.
