Rebecka Coutaz, who has been leading DICE, is stepping into a larger role as she takes charge of the UK-based developer Criterion as well.
According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, Coutaz is now the Vice President and General Manager for Battlefield Studios in Europe. Since 2016, Criterion has played a supporting role in developing EA’s popular Battlefield series, beginning with Battlefield 1. They’ll continue working alongside Motive and Ripple Effect, which are based in the United States.
Coutaz became the VP and GM at DICE in November 2021, following her leadership position at Ubisoft’s Annecy studio.
Reflecting on her journey, Coutaz shares, “Since my arrival at DICE in 2021, I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with an exceptionally talented and diverse team. I feel incredibly honored to embrace this expanded leadership scope, steering the future of two legendary studios — each boasting its own unique and storied past.”
She highlighted the pioneering roles of DICE and Criterion within the European gaming scene, expressing her hopes to empower these teams to innovate and redefine player experiences. “Together, leveraging the creative strengths of both studios, we aim to expand and enrich the Battlefield franchise on a global scale, in collaboration with our counterparts at Motive and Ripple Effect. It’s a thrilling moment as we shape what’s next for Battlefield, and I’m eager to welcome enthusiastic individuals ready to join this exciting journey.”
