Hello, everyone! I’m Juan Martinez, the executive producer over at Fatshark, and I’m thrilled to be part of the team behind Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. It’s great to finally invite PlayStation gamers into our intense, four-player cooperative grimdark adventure.
Today marks a big day as we’ve opened up Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PS5 players who pre-ordered the Imperial Edition. The excitement doesn’t stop there—on December 3, the game will be available to all PS5 users, and we can’t wait for you all to jump in!
Since its initial launch on PC back in November 2022, Darktide has kept us busy. We’ve rolled out nine major expansions and over 25 updates, continuously enhancing the experience. The PS5 release aligns perfectly with our 10th major update, titled Grim Protocols, and trust me, there’s plenty more coming in the future!
Fast-Paced Combat, Fatshark Style
Bringing a game to life in the Warhammer 40,000 universe has been a dream of ours for a long time, and with Darktide, we’ve done just that. This is a four-player co-op action game where you step into the shoes of a conscripted convict—a "Reject"—working under the Inquisition to reclaim the city of Tertium, overrun by Chaos. You’ll master a seamless blend of melee and ranged combat, a hybrid system we’ve worked tirelessly to refine.
Bringing Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PS5 and PS5 Pro
Our PS5 development journey was all about giving you the best possible experience. We’ve customized the game to take full advantage of PS5 hardware, offering a choice between Performance Mode (60FPS at 1440p) or Quality Mode (30FPS at 4K) for PS5 users. For those with a PS5 Pro, we’ve tapped into PSSR technology to deliver a consistent 60FPS at 4K.
We’ve also poured a lot of effort into utilizing the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, ensuring it feels like a natural extension of the Darktide experience. Each weapon, be it the explosive Boltgun, precise Lasgun, or a psyker’s Force Staff, offers a unique sensation every time you change gear.
Automatic weapons have never felt better than with the DualSense’s haptic rumble and trigger feedback. Feel the triggers come alive with each shot, as the rumble feeds back into the controller. You’ll sense the intensity when your ammo’s nearly out, and wielding the spinning blades of the Chainsword and feeling them slice through heretics is something else entirely. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts once it all launches on December 3.
Unlock Your Potential
We’ve got a massive array of options in character creation, aiming to make you feel right at home in Tertium. Customize your Reject’s class, looks, backstory, and voice, adding personal touches to your role in this universe.
Each class features its own intricate talent tree, allowing you to customize your playstyle through three main domains and their respective subclasses. Our Itemization overhaul ensures you have a wide range of choices, as you work your way through 40+ weapon families to become the expert you want to be.
An Ever-Evolving Game
December 3 is huge for us—not only does Darktide land on PlayStation, but it’s also the release of our 10th major update: Grim Protocols, packed with exciting new content.
We’re launching a new endgame mode, Havoc, designed for the most battle-hardened operatives. Prepare yourself for some serious challenges! Plus, there’s a thrilling new mission set in the Carnival, known for its shady dealings and varied entertainment.
We’re bolstering our arsenal with three new weapon families: the powerful Two-Handed Force and Power Swords, and the mighty Ogryn Heavy Stubber, all ready to chew through the Chaos horde.
Stay tuned for regular PS5 updates to catch all the cool stuff coming your way in 2025. Mark your calendar for December 3 when Warhammer 40,000: Darktide officially launches on PS5. Welcome to Tertium, Rejects, and good luck facing the challenges ahead—for the Emperor!
