Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is set to make its debut in the virtual reality realm, with a special version coming exclusively to the Quest 3 and 3S next week.
This VR adaptation, crafted by Playside Studios in collaboration with Meta, will be hitting the Quest on April 10th. It’s bringing a host of features, including both solo mode and online multiplayer, so you can go head-to-head with other Quest 3 players.
For those familiar with its PC and console counterparts, you’ll be embarking on an epic journey through history, tasked with guiding your civilization to prosperity. You’ll choose a leader, forge alliances, or take on the world’s powers through strategic combat.
If you’re new to the Civilization franchise, prepare to start in one of several unique ages in Civilization VII – VR. Each age presents distinct challenges and rewards. Whether you’re laying down the roots of your empire in the Antiquity Age, discovering distant terrains in the Exploration Age, or pushing the limits of technology and industry in the Modern Age, there’s something for every strategic mind.
What truly makes the VR version stand out, aside from the obvious virtual reality aspects, is the immersive ‘War Table’. This feature offers a tabletop-style experience, allowing you to command your civilization like never before. You can zoom, tilt, and maneuver the table for the best vantage points, providing an intuitive way to plan your next great conquest.
You’ll also be battling or negotiating with rival civilizations, either AI-controlled or real players, using diplomacy to avoid conflict or brace for battle. Plus, the game is launching with both virtual and mixed reality modes. This means you can opt to see your real-world environment through the passthrough feature, bringing a new layer of immersion to your gameplay.
Eager fans can already place a preorder for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – VR on the Horizon Store for Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with the game priced at $60.
