Hey gamers, it’s time to start the countdown because CD Projekt Red has officially begun working on the next Witcher game! While we shouldn’t expect it to hit our consoles anytime soon, Witcher fans can now celebrate a little victory. The director of the much-awaited new installment of the Witcher series has shared some exciting news: Production has started on what’s being called Project Polaris. “I’m thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase!” Sebastian Kalemba enthused on Twitter. “With new challenges just around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience. No stopping now! Stay tuned for what’s on the other side of the coin!”
If you check out Kalemba’s tweet, you’ll notice a cool photo of a few coins on a stone floor paired with the announcement. Now, before you get too hyped, remember, the game is still quite a way off from completion. Exactly how many years? Well, your guess is as good as mine, but let’s hope it lands within the current decade—keeping in mind the long wait we had for Cyberpunk 2077.
Some interesting tidbits about this new chapter suggest it may not be titled The Witcher 4. It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost been ten years since The Witcher 3 was released. In light of prolonged development cycles, many games today aim to be accessible to newcomers, even if they’re part of a series. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a prime example, carrying minimal direct references to Breath of the Wild.
It seems we’re possibly heading into an era beyond Geralt. The voice behind Geralt himself hinted that the next installment might not focus on the beloved protagonist we know. Initially, when the sequel was revealed, it was noted this would kick off an entire new saga. So, we’re looking at a fresh start here. Stay tuned for more updates from CD Projekt Red as they take us on this exciting new journey.
