Many fans have expressed their views that the pace of Arcane’s second season, especially its concluding act, felt a bit hurried. Showrunner Christian Linke has responded to these critiques, providing his perspective on the matter.
Arcane certainly captivates with its stunning visuals, yet some viewers feel that the storyline in the second and final season seemed a bit disorganized. It juggled numerous storylines, which arguably needed another season to develop properly. Addressing these concerns in an interview with GamesRadar, Christian Linke touched on the differences in pacing compared to the first season. According to Linke, “When people watch season 1, there’s an aspect to the pacing… season 2 is a bit different in that regard.”
Linke acknowledges the viewers’ opinions, saying, “I respect that people express that [opinion]. You’re right – the vast majority of the audience seems to be happy. But there are people who say, ‘It’s rushed. What’s going on?'” As pointed out by GamesRadar, a significant part of the first season’s charm was watching various character relationships unfold. In comparison, season two seemed to fast-forward through these elements to reach its conclusion. Linke conceded that their team chose to approach season two differently, aiming to take creative risks.
“For most people, it works well. There are some who specifically wanted season one’s continuation in the same vibe and are disappointed, which I’m not pleased about, but I understand,” Linke shared. Then there’s the added complexity of introducing additional characters from the League of Legends universe, some of whom didn’t even appear, leaving viewers both overwhelmed and wanting more.
Some viewers complained about the rapid pace and excess of storylines, whereas others found the content lacking, asking where certain characters like Camille, Blitzcrank, and Twitch were. “We did our best… It’s hard. We’re doing our best to include the right amount of story,” he explained.
In my opinion, Arcane could have benefited from at least one more season to flesh out these plotlines further. However, considering the cost of producing the first two seasons, it’s understandable why they chose to wrap things up. As it stands, Riot seems committed to expanding its multimedia ventures, so fans can look forward to more content coming their way.
