The popular indie game marketplace itch.io has just revealed its upcoming Creator Day, set for November 29th, as reported by Engadget. On that day, all the money spent will directly benefit game developers, skipping the usual 10% fee that itch.io normally takes.
This event aligns perfectly with itch.io’s Autumn Sale, which runs from November 27th to December 5th. With over 7,400 projects up for grabs, the sale offers a treasure trove of both digital and physical games, plus resources for budding creators eager to craft their own games.
Itch.io introduced Creator Day back in 2021 as a lifeline for developers grappling with financial challenges during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spencer Hayes, itch.io’s director of business and content, shared with Polygon, “Our community supports us every day, and we wanted to dedicate a day to give back. It’s been tough for many, and we thought this would be a way to lend a helping hand.”
Known for its generous revenue split—developers usually keep 90% of their sales compared to less favorable options like Steam or the Apple App Store—itch.io sets itself apart with initiatives like Creator Day alongside its charitable campaigns, offering a distinctive edge over its more mainstream competitors.
