VR enthusiast and modder Holydh has introduced a fresh way to experience GTA: San Andreas with the release of the Definitive Edition – 6DoF UEVR Plugin. What this nifty tool does is bring modded PC VR support to Steam users, opening up a whole new dimension for the classic game.
Just last August, fans were hit with disappointing news when Meta and Rockstar postponed the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Quest indefinitely. In a move that reflected Rockstar’s unfortunate streak with the GTA series—marked by leaks, layoffs, and less-than-stellar releases of its remastered “Definitive Editions”—this delay nudged the inventive modding community to roll up their sleeves and take matters into their own hands.
Now, Holydh’s creation isn’t just any straightforward transference of basic controls into a virtual landscape. Instead, this mod offers players an immersive first-person experience enhanced with 6DOF motion controls. You’ll notice notable camera tweaks that enhance both gameplay and those memorable cutscenes we all love. Thanks to an advanced version of Praydog’s UEVR injector, virtually any PC game using Unreal Engine 4.8 or later can enjoy similar VR upgrades.

If you’re itching to dive in or want to learn about UEVR details, head over to its Nexus Mods page. A word of caution: this mod pairs solely with the Steam version of San Andreas Definitive Edition. So, if you’re on the Epic Games Store or using Rockstar Launcher, unfortunately, this mod won’t work for you.
And, while Rockstar has been quite protective over its intellectual property in cases like the Luke Ross VR mod for Grand Theft Auto 5, Holydh feels confident that things should be smooth sailing. The mod’s free availability plays a big part here, differing from the initial paywall approach of the Luke Ross mod. Rest assured, everything at hand doesn’t step on Rockstar’s toes legally.
