Bungie has finally unveiled more about their upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, offering gamers a much-anticipated glimpse into its gameplay. Mark your calendars for September 23rd, 2025, when Marathon is set to launch on Xbox Series X and Series S.
In this dynamic new universe, players will assume the role of Runners—cybernetic mercenaries each boasting unique abilities. Together with a team of up to three players, you’ll dive into intense battles against relentless AI security forces and rival Runner teams. The game’s premise revolves around looting essential weapons, implants, and equipment during your missions, and if you make it out alive, you’ll get to keep everything you’ve gathered for future adventures.
Here’s how it works: you and your team will drop into a designated zone, where the mission is to grab as much loot as possible and safely extract. You’re not just fighting AI here; other player teams roam the area, all vying for the same treasures. Surviving means you emerge with all your hard-earned gear, ready for the next run. For those brave enough to go it alone, Marathon offers a solo mode, where you can challenge yourself to take on teams independently and claim all the rewards for yourself.

Although the official release is still a while away, you won’t have to wait long to get hands-on experience. A Closed Alpha is scheduled to kick off on April 23rd. To participate, sign up via the official Marathon Discord server.
