Few games manage to pull off crossovers like Dead By Daylight does. The Killer crossovers, in particular, are a standout feature, bringing iconic characters from renowned horror franchises to life with impressive accuracy. Each Killer introduces new gameplay dynamics with their own distinct perks. While the Survivor crossovers are certainly noteworthy, there’s a unique thrill in playing as legendary villains like the Xenomorph from Alien or Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head. However, despite the constant arrival of new Killers, Behaviour Interactive has announced that one iconic figure is about to bow out. In a surprising turn of events, The Cenobite from Hellraiser is set to be removed, becoming unavailable in just a few weeks.
Pinhead, the terrifying figure from the Hellraiser universe, will soon be off the shelves and out of reach for new players. All content associated with the Hellraiser Chapter will be scrubbed from the game, marking the end of his availability. Behaviour Interactive’s explanation is somewhat cryptic, simply stating: “Dead by Daylight is a live service game, and there’s always the possibility that unexpected changes may occur.” The writing on the wall suggests it’s a classic case of an expired licensing agreement for this particularly chilling DLC.
On the bright side, if you’ve already snagged Pinhead, or decide to grab him during his final days in the game, he’s yours to keep. All the Hellraiser content and perks you’ve acquired will stay accessible to you. Moreover, those who already own him will retain the original names of Pinhead’s unique perks. For everyone else, these perks will get renamed and distributed into the broader perk pool. This situation also applies to achievements tied specifically to the Hellraiser content.
If Pinhead is on your wish list, the clock’s ticking. This is the last window to claim him, and as a bonus, Behaviour is offering a “Last Chance” sale. Everything related to Hellraiser, including The Cenobite and his Cosmetics like The Chatterer Legendary Outfit, is up for grabs at a 50% discount until his departure from The Fog.
To be precise, Pinhead remains available for acquisition in Dead By Daylight until Friday, April 4, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST / 5 PM CEST.
The removal of crossover characters is a rare and somewhat unsettling event in DBD. While the game is home to a diverse roster of fascinating characters, and current owners of Pinhead can still continue to enjoy him, there is an underlying concern. Fans might worry about the potential for other beloved Survivors and Killers to disappear if similar licensing hurdles arise. Pinhead’s inclusion dates back to August 2021, so he has enjoyed a solid run in the game.
