In the expansive world of Monster Hunter Wilds, Dapperwings take to the skies as part of the unique endemic wildlife you’ll encounter. Early on, you’ll be tasked with capturing one of these elusive creatures in a side quest titled “Samin’s Research Report.” This mission is an extension of your previous endeavor, “Dareel’s Research Report,” where you were required to capture tracktail lizards. Our handy guide will help you track down these airborne wonders and successfully complete the quest.
### Discovering Dapperwing Locations in Monster Hunter Wilds
To begin your hunt for a Dapperwing, your best bet is to venture into the scenic serenity of the Scarlet Forest. A solid starting point is near the Bower of the Great Tree, located in Area 7 at the pop-up camp. From there, we made our way to Area 6, where luck favored us with three distinct Dapperwing sightings.
These creatures tend to congregate in groups, often alighting on fallen trees and broad branches. Daytime expeditions might prove more fruitful, as the Dapperwings are likely to be active, filling the air with a sound that closely resembles typical birdcalls. For those looking for additional guidance, a good strategy is to move eastward from the “6” marked on your map, staying vigilant for any movement or sounds among the trees.
### Capturing a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
Once you’ve set your eyes on a Dapperwing, capturing it is the next step. Equip your trusty capture net from either your item bar or the Essential Items radial menu. If the Dapperwings are perched too high, simply mount your Seikret and prepare to use the capture net from an elevated position.
When approaching, do it cautiously to avoid startling the creatures. Unlike the shy tracktail lizards, Dapperwings typically roost above ground level, allowing you to move closer without alarming them. Utilize the newly implemented rectangle reticle; carefully edge forward until the reticle shifts to yellow-orange—your cue to deploy the net.
Keep in mind the crucial step of pressing L2/LT instead of the standard square/X button. Successfully capturing a Dapperwing not only fulfills the quest but also rewards you with ten blue mushrooms, five honey, 50 guild points, and a boost to both your hunter rank and palico level. Happy hunting!
