Sony has just revealed a major price cut for the PSVR 2, effective next month. This adjustment brings the cost down to $400, making it more accessible for PS5 and PC users keen to dive into the virtual reality experience.
Initially launched nearly two years ago at $550, the PSVR 2 hadn’t seen much celebration or mention in recent Sony events, even skipping a shoutout during the State of Play presentation two weeks ago. In a bold move, the price is dropping to $400 in the U.S., €450 in Europe, £400 in the UK, and ¥66,980 in Japan starting this March.
What’s particularly intriguing is that this new price applies to both the basic PSVR 2 package—which includes the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones—and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which originally debuted at $600 back in February 2023.
Over time, the PSVR 2 has had its share of deals, sometimes even dipping below the upcoming new price. Just last November, for instance, Sony offered the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle for an impressive $350, hinting that even better discounts might be in the pipeline.
In announcing the price drop, Sony highlighted some standout titles like Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion, while building anticipation for upcoming releases such as Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk. However, despite this content lineup, Sony hasn’t totally committed its full resources to the PSVR 2.
To date, Sony has introduced only a few first-party experiences for the PSVR 2, including Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR enhancements for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This seems a bit sparse when compared to the original PSVR, which saw a more robust lineup with titles like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, PlayStation VR Worlds, the VR Playroom, and VR modes for Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
Last August, Sony gave players a bit of a supportive nudge by releasing the PC Adapter for $60. This allows users to connect to VR-ready PCs and enjoy SteamVR titles such as Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. Still, it seems Sony might be edging towards distancing the PSVR 2 from being solely tied to the PS5 ecosystem.
Looking ahead, further discounts could well inspire a surge in year-over-year sales. Last holiday season’s performance offers a glimmer of hope as more PS5 players could be lured by the increasing repository of exciting games, alongside a consistent flow of third-party offerings. If another hefty discount—like the 42% off from Black Friday—is on the horizon, the PSVR 2 might dip to a wallet-friendly $232, just in time to consider it as a generous holiday gift.
Update (February 27th, 2025): We’ve corrected the Euro price to €450, after initially misstating it as €550.
