Rumor has it that the well-regarded Xbox game, Hellblade 2, might soon be making its debut on the PlayStation 5, following the trend of other Xbox exclusives. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, known for its stunning visuals and immersive sound design, could potentially expand its audience by becoming available to PS5 players. If these whispers hold truth, they’ll mark another chapter in Xbox’s ongoing narrative of sharing first-party titles with competing consoles.
Initially launched on May 21, 2024, Hellblade 2 was developed by Ninja Theory, an Xbox-owned studio, and released on both PC and Xbox Series X/S. The game, serving as a sequel to the 2017 hit Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, was met with critical acclaim and earned several accolades at The Game Awards 2024. Following this success, the sequel now appears poised to join other first-party games like Forza Horizon 5, Age of Empires 2, and Age of Mythology: Retold, all of which are making similar cross-platform moves.
According to Jez Corden from Windows Central, the announcement of Hellblade 2 for PS5 might be imminent. On Twitter, while discussing the potential for this dark hack-and-slash title to hit Sony’s console, Corden hinted, “not if, ‘when!’ and when is pretty soon from what I’ve been hearing.” He previously speculated that the announcement could come during the upcoming State of Play on February 12, 2025. In another exchange, Corden also mentioned that he’s confident another Xbox exclusive, South of Midnight, slated for release in April 2025, will eventually find its way to PlayStation as well.
If these reports pan out, Hellblade 2 would be another example of Xbox’s initiative to broaden the reach of its games to include rival platforms like Nintendo and PlayStation. This strategy, already in motion with titles from 2022’s Pentiment to the expected Doom: The Dark Ages, suggests that the transition of popular Xbox-owned games to other consoles is not just possible, but increasingly likely.
In this light, Hellblade 2 wouldn’t be the only Xbox first-party IP eyeing a cross-platform release. The same source has hinted at several other titles potentially heading to PS5. While Age of Mythology: Retold has been officially confirmed for PlayStation, announcements regarding potential arrivals of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Flight Simulator are still awaited.
Hellblade 2 continues the story of Senua, delving deeper into themes of survival and myth amidst the dramatic backdrop of Viking-era Iceland. Known for its cinematic depth and jaw-dropping aesthetics, the game places players in the shoes of Senua, a Celtic warrior confronting both external adversaries and internal demons. With its seamless blend of intense combat, captivating storytelling, and vivid exploration of historical landscapes, it holds a strong appeal for gamers across platforms.
