Keep a tight grip on your competitive standing—it’s about to vanish with the arrival of Marvel Rivals’ midseason update next week. Today, in a developer diary update, NetEase shared that they’ll be resetting ranks twice each season: once right at the beginning and again halfway through.
“We’ve taken a good look at the data and had some deep discussions,” they mentioned. “We’ve realized that players’ ranks from the first half of Season 1 give us the clearest picture of their skill level during the season. Because of this, we’re adding another rank reset to better sync with new content and upcoming changes!”
Mark your calendars for February 21, because that’s when everyone will see their rank drop by four divisions. Marvel Rivals structures ranks into three divisions each, except for the top tiers: Eternity and One Above All. So, if you’re currently at Gold I, expect to see yourself at Silver II after the reset. When new seasons kick off, the drop will be six divisions. NetEase plans to “fine-tune this” just in case the ranking chaos escalates while players adjust to their true standings.
Data from RivalsTracker reveals that most competitive players hover between Silver I and Gold III. This shift means a lot of you will find yourselves mingling in the bronze ranks for a bit.
For those aiming to snag the Blood Shield Invisible Woman skin, you’d better reach Gold III by next Friday. Once the update rolls out, a different skin will be up for grabs. Additionally, you’ll need to complete 10 matches to earn it, making sure only active players qualify.
This rank reset might be tougher for some players, especially with the “major balance adjustments” NetEase plans to implement in this patch. Healers are often seen as excessively powerful right now, and some players are eager for Moon Knight’s ultimate to get a fix. The arrival of characters like the Thing and Human Torch in matches is bound to change the dynamics in unpredictable ways as well.
