It looks like the dungeon-crawling adventure that is Ancient Dungeon VR just got a lot more exciting for PSVR 2 players. The game, which falls into the rogue-lite category, has introduced a fresh update bringing much-anticipated multiplayer co-op to the forefront.
Back in 2021, the game made its debut in the Steam Early Access and on the short-lived App Lab for Quest. Originally crafted for lone adventurers, it offered more than 20 hours of labyrinthine stages filled with physics-driven melees against blocky, D&D-style enemies that included wizards and skeletons.
In a turn of events back in mid-2024, both the Quest and SteamVR versions welcomed a four-player co-op mode. Sadly, this did not extend to the PSVR 2 when it launched on that platform in December the following year.
However, Eric Thullen, the creative genius behind the game, has delighted PSVR 2 fans by rolling out this eagerly awaited multiplayer update. Now, up to four players can collaboratively explore the game’s procedurally-generated mazes, tackling traps and adversaries together in co-op play.
During a recent Reddit Q&A, Thullen mentioned that, for now, cross-play is not available between the various systems the game is on. Yet, he assured fans that cross-play with Quest and PC VR is definitely on the horizon.
Established as one of VR’s standout indie triumphs, Ancient Dungeon first gained momentum through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020. Its beta eventually drew in over a thousand positive reviews, achieving an impressive [4.8/5] score.
As the title nears the five-year mark, it continues to evolve with constant updates. These include new weaponry, cosmetic upgrades, special insights, dungeon floors, and relics—all part of Thullen’s efforts to enhance the game before its ultimate 1.0 release, which, as stated in a Steam update, isn’t quite ready yet.
For those wishing to dive into this virtual adventure, you can grab Ancient Dungeon VR on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, each priced at $20.
