If you’re eyeing the new NVIDIA RTX 5090 or 5080 GPUs, you might need to arm yourself with a bit more patience. Overclockers UK has indicated that grabbing one of these high-demand cards could take several weeks, possibly even stretching into months.
When the NVIDIA RTX 50 series launched, chaos ensued, with many dubbing it a “paper launch.” Some stores couldn’t secure a single RTX 5090 for their shelves, making it seem like an impossible treasure hunt for the more than eager buyers. Those who did manage to stock the RTX 5090 sold out within mere minutes of the embargo lifting, and the RTX 5080 wasn’t far behind. Despite better stock levels overall, the generational upgrades didn’t seem to slow the stampede.
If you’re biding your time for the chance to snag one of these GPUs, prepare for a bit of a wait. According to Overclockers UK, not only are both models currently sold out, but they’ve also stopped accepting pre-orders completely, at least for now. So, what’s the timeline looking like for their return?
Overclockers suggests the RTX 5090 might take anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks to return in stock, while the RTX 5080 could be back between 2 and 6 weeks. If we consider the longest wait for the RTX 5090, it might just be before the mid-point of 2025—perhaps around May. By that time, gamers might already have their eyes on the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070, with launches slated for February 20th and sometime in March, respectively.
In an official update from January 31, 2025, Overclockers UK stated, “Due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch with some pre-orders taken in restricted quantities.” Here’s the upcoming stock prediction: RTX 5090 could take 3–16 weeks, while the RTX 5080 might take 2–6 weeks to reappear.
For those hopeful of the RTX 5080, it might just make a reappearance in about a month. Although there was initially better availability worldwide, the stock has not been sufficient to meet the surging demand. Despite its struggles in technological progression compared to the RTX 5090, its pricing alongside the RTX 4080 Super attracted quite the crowd.
With people literally camping out and retailers at times resorting to lottery systems just to ration out opportunities to purchase, securing one of these GPUs has become more of an event. Some pre-ordered units from Overclockers UK are reportedly caught in the queue, missing confirmation emails.
That’s why Overclockers has paused pre-orders for now. The return of RTX 5090 and 5080 to shelves across the globe remains uncertain, and gamers may have to keep their fingers crossed a bit longer.
