John Gonzalez, who some may recognize as the lead writer for Fallout: New Vegas, has made his way back to Obsidian. In a LinkedIn update, Gonzalez shared his excitement about rejoining the studio but quickly clarified that he isn’t diving into a Fallout: New Vegas sequel. His initial stint at Obsidian spanned from 2008 to 2011, preceded by a notable period working with Ubisoft out in Shanghai.
After wrapping up his work on New Vegas, Gonzalez transitioned to Monolith Productions under the Warner Bros. umbrella. It was there he spent two and a half years shaping the narrative of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor as the lead narrative designer. His journey in the gaming world then took him to Guerrilla Games in the Netherlands, where he played a pivotal role in developing Horizon: Zero Dawn as the narrative director. Not one to settle, he then spent nearly three years at Smilegate’s studio in Barcelona.
Beyond his impressive career in game development, Gonzalez is also branching out into fiction. He’s set to release a novel titled “God Mode: Single Player,” which is slated for publication in 2025.
