Sony’s annual roundup of the most downloaded games across its PlayStation platforms for 2024 is out, and while not much has shifted since PSVR 2’s debut year, the results are pretty much what you’d expect.
As PSVR 2 approaches the two-year mark, some have argued that Sony’s PS5-connected VR headset was somewhat overlooked post-launch in February 2023. Critics point to the notably fewer exclusives and developer backing compared to the original PSVR. However, die-hard fans of the headset would counter that sentiment.
Let’s give credit where it’s due: PSVR 2 is a robust piece of tech. It lets developers push for higher rendering resolutions and spectacular visual details, challenging even Meta’s Quest 3. Not to mention, Sony introduced a wired adapter last June, enabling users to dive into PC VR games as well. Yet, the real tale of its success lies in analyzing the most popular downloads on the PlayStation Store.

Taking the crown, Beat Saber (2018) has firmly maintained its position at the peak in both North America and Europe. It’s no surprise, as it’s often one of the first recommendations we make to VR newcomers.
The few 2024 debut games on the list are Metro Awakening from Vertigo Games—though it had a limited window to climb the rankings after its November 2024 release—and Urban Wolf Games’ Legendary Tales, which moved out of Early Access in February 2024 and became available on all major VR platforms.
But let’s not overlook Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023), which managed to break into the charts despite hitting the shelves in December 2023, giving it scant time to influence the year’s results.
