Nintendo fans have long eagerly awaited the arrival of a sequel, and it’s finally here. The beloved gaming giant has just confirmed that its next big release is the Switch 2, a welcome successor to the popular Switch console.
In an exciting update, Nintendo revealed a teaser video showcasing the new system. The Switch 2 sports an even bigger screen than the previous Switch OLED model, alongside redesigned and larger Joy-Con controllers. These new controllers come with a small clip on each side to secure them to the system during handheld gameplay. Additionally, the console features a kickstand that allows it to be positioned nearly flat, perfect for tabletop play. And in a nod to its predecessor, the Switch 2 will be compatible with both original Switch cartridges and digital downloads. Fans can expect this new console to hit the shelves sometime in 2025.
Though no specific game titles were dropped in the video, eagle-eyed viewers might have caught a glimpse of what looks like a new Mario Kart course. Nintendo has planned a special Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct for April 2, 2025, with hands-on events following in various locations worldwide. According to Nintendo’s announced schedule, these events will take place in several major cities:
In North America, check out events in New York from April 4 to 6, Los Angeles from April 11 to 13, and Dallas and Toronto (Canada) from April 25 to 27.
Over in Europe, Paris will host activities from April 4 to 6, followed by London from April 11 to 13. Fans in Milan, Berlin, Madrid, and Amsterdam can mark their calendars for April 25 to 27 and May 9 to 11, respectively.
The anticipation is palpable, and fans everywhere are eager to get their hands on Nintendo’s latest creation.
