Stress Level Zero has been riding high on the success of BONELAB (2022) with its physics-based sandbox, especially on the Quest platforms. However, fans have been eagerly waiting for BONEWORKS (2019), the studio’s celebrated physics-driven action puzzler, to make its debut on Meta’s latest standalone hardware. It looks like that wait is about to end.
For those unfamiliar, BONEWORKS is an intense VR action-adventure game that takes advantage of cutting-edge experimental physics. Players must navigate dynamic environments, engage in combat that’s heavily influenced by physics, and tackle puzzles that require a creative touch to solve.
In a recent post shared on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), Brandon Laatsch, one of the studio’s co-founders, unveiled some exciting goals for 2025. The plan includes developing updates for their Marrow Engine physics framework and, importantly, launching BONEWORKS for the Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
If you’re curious about BONEWORKS on the Quest 3, check out this sneak peek:
In his post, Laatsch laid out the team’s aspirations: “25 goals: Release Patch 7, 8, 9 for Bonelab with Marrow 2, 2.1, 2.2. Bring Boneworks to Quest 3 in parallel on Marrow 2. Pre-production for the next game. By x-linking Marrow, we’re aiming for compatibility. Boneworks is the nearest kin but is still tricky. Godspeed, SLZ! pic.twitter.com/siesw8yP6o”
What stands out is that the studio is simultaneously working on the Marrow 2.0 release and bringing BONEWORKS to the Quest 3 while also kicking off pre-production for their next title.
Interestingly enough, Quest users have been able to dive into BONEWORKS thanks to a community-driven mod called ‘Labworks’ that works on Quest 2 and above. Despite the upcoming native release, Laatsch assured fans that they would not be taking Labworks off the shelves. The mod, crafted over two years by indie modder ‘volx64,’ merits its place. Laatsch pointed out that while Labworks is a testament to the community’s passion, the Marrow Engine promises to introduce significant innovations to BONEWORKS beyond a straightforward port.
Although we don’t have a specific release date yet, we’re eagerly keeping tabs on Laatsch’s profile on X and the studio’s YouTube channel for any new developments. Stay tuned!
