At CES 2025, NVIDIA made an exciting announcement that it’s expanding its GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform to include support for new devices like the Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, as well as Pico headsets.
This latest update doesn’t open the door to VR-native titles for cloud gaming just yet. Instead, it focuses on allowing users to enjoy standard games already supported on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and various handheld gaming machines on these headsets.
Starting later this month, gamers using Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico devices will be able to stream their favorite games via GeForce NOW directly through browsers, thanks to the rollout of version 2.0.70. NVIDIA promises that this update will bring “all the bells and whistles” of its advanced technologies like ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS. For those donning VR headsets, the experience will include gamepad-compatible titles on a sweeping virtual screen.
One of the appealing aspects of NVIDIA’s service is its accessibility; there’s a free tier with limited access, while more extensive and higher-quality options are available through a range of daily passes and monthly subscriptions. The library is no small feat either, boasting over 2,000 titles.
NVIDIA isn’t blazing this trail alone. Back in 2022, Pluto VR briefly offered its cloud gaming service on the Quest with PlutoSphere before a broader movement by Meta to remove unapproved cloud streaming apps resulted in its removal from the store in early 2024.
On the other hand, Microsoft’s foray into cloud gaming for standalone VR devices was more successful. Xbox Cloud Gaming, along with its extensive Game Pass library, gained approval to integrate with the Quest system in late 2023, marking another significant step in cloud gaming’s evolution.
