Three weeks in, Nintendo has introduced another classic to the Switch Online Game Boy lineup, bringing us yet another throwback featuring our favorite apes.
Following the pattern set by the previous two weeks, Donkey Kong Land III is now up for grabs in the Game Boy collection. Originally launched in 1997, this game marks the third entry in a unique series of Game Boy versions of the famed Donkey Kong Country titles. In Land III, players join Dixie and Kiddy Kong on an adventure to uncover the “Lost World,” racing against K. Rool, Donkey Kong, and/or Diddy Kong.
What’s particularly interesting about Land III is that it stands out as one of the rare instances where Donkey Kong isn’t a playable character and doesn’t need rescuing in his own game series. It strays further from the SNES’s Country 3 in comparison to its predecessors.
For those using the Japanese version of the app, you’re in for a treat—the version available is the 2000 Game Boy Color re-release, a gem that was previously exclusive to that region.
