After the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, many fans were eager to learn if any downloadable content (DLC) would accompany the game, especially since its predecessor, Remake, had received extra content while waiting for the next installment. To address these curiosities, director Naoki Hamaguchi recently spoke with the Daily Star, confirming that there will be no DLC for Rebirth. He also elaborated on why they’re taking this route. Although fans expressed their wishes for additional content, Hamaguchi believes that what people truly want is the swifter arrival of the third installment in the series.
“There’s a strong desire from the fans, and we can hear their voices asking for DLC,” Hamaguchi acknowledged. “But from my viewpoint, it seems like what fans are truly eager for is not additional content, but rather the completion of the series. They want to see the third part as soon as possible.”
Hamaguchi further explained, “This is precisely why we’ve chosen to channel all our development resources toward the next game instead of creating extra episodes as DLC. Our main focus right now is to ensure that the third game is released promptly. That’s where all our time and effort are going.”
In the previous game, the Yuffie DLC served as a transition between releases. Fans have speculated about possible solo outings for characters like Cid and Vincent Valentine from Rebirth. However, considering the format, it’s uncertain how these stories might unfold. There’s also speculation that Square Enix might be cooking up a Dirge of Cerberus remaster similar to Crisis Core: Reunion—something that would delight fans of that offbeat title.
Our own Dom recently caught up with Hamaguchi for a chat, discussing his ideas for mini-games in the series’ final chapter. Rest assured, some exciting changes are in the works. Stay tuned!
