I’m currently working on a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island and had the chance to chat with Polygon Treehouse co-founder, Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, about the game. You should check out what we discussed!
PS4Blog: Hi there! It’s great to have you with us again. How’s everything going for you?
Alex: Thanks! It’s been quite a whirlwind since we launched our last indie game, Röki. Diving into Mythwrecked has been fascinating as we shift from Scandinavian folklore to imagining the Greek gods in a contemporary setting!
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is coming to Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you give us a sneak peek into what this adventure holds?
Alex: Certainly! We like to think of Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island as an “explore-o-story” game. You take on the role of Alex, a backpacker seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle, only to find themselves stranded on an enigmatic island after a strange storm. You’ll encounter Greek gods, help them regain their memories, and try to carve a path back home.
PS4B: When did the development of this project begin? Have there been any significant changes from the initial idea to what players will experience?
Alex: I started drafting the concept around three years ago. Many of the central ideas, like the treasure hunting radar and memory flashbacks, remained constant. However, the ‘Story Sandbox,’ which involves conversing with the gods, evolved significantly. We iterated a lot, and I’m thrilled with how it finally came together. It provides a genuine experience of being embedded in unfolding narratives.
PS4B: Röki had a physical release last time. Should we expect something similar for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
Alex: As a fan of physical releases, I was thrilled Röki had one. Currently, there’s no concrete news on that for Mythwrecked, but it’s definitely something I hope we can achieve in the future.
PS4B: Before we wrap up, is there anything else you would like to share?
Alex: Just a heartfelt thank you for taking the time to read about Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. If you enjoy cozy, mythical, adventurous, or mysterious games, we hope you’ll give it a go. We’re confident it’ll be an indie adventure to remember!
