It’s hard to believe, but the day has come again. It seems like not too long ago we witnessed the epic Wild West journey of Red Dead Redemption 2 making a comeback on PS Plus, enticing everyone to dive back into its sprawling open-world universe. Alas, the time has already come for it to bow out from the PlayStation subscription lineup once more, along with a few other noteworthy titles, as we hit October.
A recent update to the "Last Chance" section on the PSN store for PS5 and PS4 confirmed the lineup of games departing the PS Plus Extra library at the end of this month. Alongside Red Dead Redemption 2, which only rejoined the service a few months back in May, we see the departure of the beloved Kingdom Hearts. That definitely stings a bit, especially since I just started playing through the original with my kids. Here’s the complete list of 16 titles exiting in October:
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition (PS4 | PS5)
- Teardown (PS5)
- Chorus (PS4 | PS5)
- Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4)
- What Remains of Edith Finch (PS4 | PS5)
- Overcooked! 2 (PS4)
- Superliminal (PS4 | PS5)
- Blasphemous (PS4)
- Moving Out (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts III (PS4)
- Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (PS4)
- Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On (PS4)
- Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (PS4 | PS5)
- The Sims 4 City Living [DLC]
One notable name leaving is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which hits us with a nostalgic punch. Games like Blasphemous and What Remains of Edith Finch are sheer masterpieces. Who would have thought that Teardown, a delightful sim based on voxel destruction, would bid us farewell so soon? And speaking of short tenures, Red Dead Redemption 2 has had quite a brief resurgence with mere six months on the platform. For the avid RPG fans, the exodus of the Kingdom Hearts series marks another wave of Square Enix legends exiting PS Plus.
Interestingly, avid gamers have picked up on patterns to predict which titles are most likely to leave based on the typical six, 12, and 18-month agreements that many companies appear to utilize. Many had speculated that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Humanity might also follow suit, but for now, those adventures remain safe. Consider this a friendly heads-up: make the most out of the six months to enjoy these games if you haven’t yet!
