Recently, a Windows 11 update has thrown a wrench in the gaming gears, affecting several Ubisoft titles, including Star Wars Outlaws.
Isn’t it frustrating how tech updates can throw things off balance? One minute everything’s fine, and the next, a simple update disrupts your gaming session. While it’s not the end of the world, gamers who’ve been trying to dive into Ubisoft titles are experiencing headaches thanks to the latest Windows 11 update. It seems this update has turned a number of these games unplayable, causing quite a stir. Since the update rolled out last week, people began noticing issues launching or playing several Ubisoft games, and now Microsoft has acknowledged the hiccup. So, if your preferred games have begun acting up, rest assured, it’s not just your setup that’s acting out.
According to a statement from Microsoft, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games.” Players might find these games freezing during startup, loading screens, or even mid-play. In some instances, there’s just a black screen staring back at them. Thankfully, Microsoft also provided a list of the affected games: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
In an effort to smooth over the experience, Microsoft added, “To protect your Windows update experience, we’ve placed a compatibility hold on devices with these games installed. These devices won’t be offered the Windows 11, version 24H2 update via the Windows Update release channel… We suggest holding off on manually updating to version 24H2 with the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this bug gets sorted.”
While we wait for a permanent fix, Ubisoft has rolled out a temporary hotfix to patch things up. They’ve cautioned that “you may notice some performance issues while we work on a more permanent solution. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we’ve cracked it.” Maybe it’s time to explore other titles in your backlog while the techies work their magic on this one.
